Bacterial Meningitis kills an Oklahoma student

Plus, The Orange loses to Georgetown and firefighters rescue, revive cat from burning Syracuse building.

According to a CNN.com report an Oklahoma Elementary School student has died from bacterial meningitis this Thursday, and two other students are hospitalized with the illness.

A statement from Oologah Talala Emergency Medical Services says health department officials are at Oologah Lower Elementary School.  Oologah Talala School Superintendent Rick Thomas asked parents to remain calm until the health department says what actions should be taken.  

Thomas said, the medical team at the school may screen students or begin vaccinations.  No further details are available. 

The Orange lose to Georgetown

The New York Times reports that with five minutes left in Syracuse's game against Georgetown in the Big East men's basketball tournament, a bad day for Syracuse looked even worse.

The Orange, who led by 9 points in the beginning of the second half, had fallen behind Georgetown by 6 points.  The game ended with a 91-84 loss for Syracuse on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters rescue, revive cat from burning Syracuse building

According to Syracuse. com Firefighters pulled two cats from a fire in a two-family residence on Syracuse's South Side this afternoon. Unfortunately, they could only save one of them.

When firefighters arrived at 1124-26 Cannon St., they found a two-story building filled with smoke and flames visible. No one was home, except for the cats.

Two firefighters carried out the two unconscious cats.  One firefighter attempted to rouse the black cat but, got no response from the animal.  However, the second cat, Tigger, was lucky.  After firefighters gave Tigger oxygen, the cat woke up.
