Post-Standard reports a 2.3 billion federal jobs bill to aid the New York Senate is expected to pass this week in Washington D.C.. Meanwhile, $700 million are hoped to help counties and New York City.
The aid is to help avoid cuts in spending, layoffs or increased taxes in the counties, according to Sen.Chuck Schumer.
Schumer told Post-standard Monday over the first six months of 2011 New York would get 2.3 billion and Upstate New York and Long Island counties would get another $200 million. New York City will get $ 500 million.
Japan Defends Dolphin Hunt After Oscar-Winning Documentary "Cove"
The Japanese fishing village featured in the film "Cove" has defended it's practice of hunting dolphins Monday after the documentary won the Oscar for Best Documentary, according to ABC News.
The movie "Cove", which is about the slaughter of dolphins in Japan, claims that Tanji kills only a small percentage of hunted dolphins every year, but it uses a method called "oikomi." This method is to chase dolphins into shore, and make hunt more visible. The movie also claims the dolphin meat is laden with toxic mercury.
According to ABC people in the village and most officials refused to talk. Tanji's mayor's office announced that Taiji's dolphin hunt is lawful.
Combative President Obama: If NOT Now, When?
According to ABC News, President Obama gave the speech to push Congress to pass health care reform today in Pennsylvania. They hope the bill to be signed into law by March 18.
President Obama criticized insurance companies, called for the support from public and tried the final push for health care reform legislation before Congress.
"When is the right time? If not now, when? If not us, who?" he said during the speech.
