The adults charged in the sexual assault of an 11-year-old could face 25 years to life in prison, according to CNN. The assault happened last year in Cleveland, Texas, about 50 miles northeast on Houston.
The 18 people charged are between 14 and 27 years old. Four of them were in the Cleveland independent school district and were charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14.
Police say they are still investigating the possibly of other suspects, some of which attend Cleveland High School.
Mike Little, the district attorney in Liberty County, says they are being careful of what information they release pre-trial. He did say that police will decide if more inviduals will be charged.
Sherry Fletcher, a mother to one of the men charged said "It just seems like a dream." Her son is 20-year-old Devo Shaun Green.
"I just hope everything comes out well, because some of these kids are innocent," she said.
